How to Arrive to Holbox Island?

Wherever you come from, it is necessary get to the small village of CHIQUILÁ, because here is located the pier where you can board the boats that take you to the beautiful island of Holbox.

Arranged transportation:

Visitors are welcome upon arrival to the airport, and then transported in a full-equipped van to Chiquilá. The trip takes approximately two hours. At this point, we board the ferry that takes another 20 minutes to reach the Holbox pier where a golf cart taxi takes you to the door of your hotel.

Cancún-Chiquilá:

You must take the free Highroad 180 to Mérida, straight to the small town of Leona Vicario. Few miles after, you will find another small town called Nuevo Valladolid, in which entry (Km 262 of the road), is a diversion to the right (just after the stop), that you must follow until the end of the road. There you will find another division: to the left is the road to El Ideal, and you have to turn to the right, to Chiquilá that from this point, it is approximately 45 minutes far.

You can also use the “Mayab” buses that depart from the Central of Buses ADO in Cancun in the following schedules: 7:30 & 8:30 am and 12:30 pm.

Mérida-Chiquilá:

Autobuses de Oriente ADO departs in schedule of 23:30 hrs. with a cost of $ 161.00 Mexican pesos per person and takes approximately 5 to 6 hours.

By car, the ride takes about 3 to 3.5 hours. You must take the Highroad 180 towards Cancun, by the “Periférico”, and then continue to Tizimín City from where you must go in direction towards the town called Colonia, continuing straight to reach Kantunilkín. Then you take the road to Chiquilá for about 25 minutes.

When in Chiquilá, there are several parking lots where you can leave your car safely and most are within walking distance from the pier where you take the ferry. Prices of parking are per day (does not charge per hour or fraction) and the fare is usually of $ 50.00 Mexican pesos.

Ferry: Schedule Chiquilá-Holbox starts at 5.00 am to 9:00 pm (one every hour) at a cost of $80.00 Mexican pesos per person.

Estimated drive time from Chiquila:

To Isla Mujeres (Island of women) - 2:40 hrs. approx. (plus 15 minutes boat from Puerto Juárez pier to Isla Mujeres)

To Mérida - 3:30 hrs. approx.

To Tulúm - 3:40 hrs. approx.

To Playa del Carmen - 3:00 hrs. approx.

To Campeche - 4:45 hrs. approx.
